Alis Hotel, Ao Nang

Introduction

ALIS is a Moroccan-style hotel located 300m from the centre of Ao Nang beach. Click here for a map. The resort is 4 years old and the hallways and stairways could do with a lick of paint, giving the visitor a less than overwhelmingly positive first impression. All is forgotten, however, when the visitor ascends the stairs (there are no elevators), to the small if gloriously-located infinity pool overlooking the sea.

Whilst the hotel’s paintwork is not in immaculate condition, it is still perfectly clean and the resort features some very tasteful and intriguing design features, as can be seen from the photos below. It is particularly atmospheric at night-time. The hotel is recommended for singles and couples, but not for families with young children, for whom the pool is not safe (due to its infinity side overlooking a considerable drop) and for whom no special connecting rooms are provided.

Spa

The hotel’s spa is elegantly decorated and competently staffed so, whilst the price for a massage is about three times that charged by the more modest massage shops located just a few doors away, at least you know that, here, you will get a good rubbing.

Alis Café

Located on the ground floor, the comfy if not particularly cosy café  has a 100” TV screen usually devoted to soccer (but with the volume kept low), and free wireless internet and a pool table. The food is unexceptional and breakfast is accompanied by the usual sweet, unpalatable bread. If you want, we’ll deliver a complimentary loaf of quality brown or white bread to you on arrival. The restaurant is perfectly OK for lunch-time poolside snacks, but most guests eat out, for which the resort is well-situated.

Pool

As well as a pool table, the hotel has a pool too, which is not huge, but beautifully located amidst vistas in all directions of mountains and tropical seas.

Rooms

The 4-storey building has 24 ‘Superior’ rooms, 9 ‘Club’ rooms and 1 ‘Honeymoon Suite’. The ‘Club’ rooms and the ‘Honeymoon Suite’ have an upstairs mezzanine level, which have balconies on which stands wooden bath-tubs. Some of these tubs afford a soak with a view of not one, but two beaches – Ao Nang beach and neighboring Hat Nopparat Thara beach.  The clever use of colour is what is striking in all of the rooms, which are furnished in a mainly neutral palate of beiges, greys and white. Contrast is provided with splashes of vivid colour - on one wall, a cushion, a vase, or a bed-runner.

The sea views are all impeded, to a greater or lesser extent, by the roofs of neighbouring buildings. For a room with as good a view as possible, contact us, and we’ll pop over and determine the best room available for your chosen dates. Our office is only a minute’s bike ride away, so this is a free service we offer, in addition to a hopefully unbeatable price.
